Pentney Abbey makes getting married in Norfolk unforgettable
As you get ready in the Bridal Preparation Room, your guests will roll up Pentney Abbey’s enormous drive and take in the first of many jaw-dropping views on the estate – the imposing Gatehouse. Arrange welcome drinks on the front lawn, under the great arch or in the courtyard where your friends and family will also be able to glimpse Norfolk’s picturesque countryside in the distance. Just before you are ready to exchange your vows, your guests will be welcomed into the Gatehouse’s ceremony room to take a seat under the hanging tapestries and arched windows.
The bride’s entrance to the Gatehouse is one that you will not forget. Climb the antique spiral stone staircase, complete with medieval carvings on the wall that encases it, and at the top you will reach a doorway. Behind it sits the ceremony room of the Gatehouse and your loved ones, waiting for your arrival. Pull back the curtain and make your way down the aisle towards your partner, where light streams in so you can see your special moment and chosen décor in all its glory.
There is space for up to 80 guests upstairs in the ceremony room in the Gatehouse, with the option to have a screen downstairs for additional or less abled guests.
Planning a bigger ceremony?
Ceremonies can also be held in the Barn, where there is space for up to 130 people. With this option, you and your guests can still enjoy all the beauty and history of the Gatehouse by holding a pre-vow drinks reception here whilst the Barn is being prepared. It’s up to you how the Barn is laid out for your ceremony – why not arrange bow-backed chairs so you and your partner can say ‘I do’ in front of the photogenic exposed-brick wall, complete with candelabras, or stand in front of the glass double doors for the most flattering light.
How and where you celebrate your wedding within Pentney Abbey’s grounds is up to you, so if you would like something a little smaller or more intimate, there is also another licensed space in the Farmhouse.
